Does Shamanic Healing Work for Pets?

Shamanic Healing for Animals

It has often been said that a dog is a man’s best friend – a sentiment shared by dog and cat owners alike. Our pets have a unique ability to pick up on emotions, thoughts and pain and help alleviate our stress and anxiety, cope with crisis, and be more mindful and present in our lives. Just petting your dog or cat can reduce your blood pressure and heart rate, while having a positive effect on your pet as well.

What comes as a surprise to many people, even those who have sought Shamanic treatments themselves, is that animals can benefit greatly from Shamanic Healing. Dog, cat, fish, bird, turtle, lizard, horse, cow – ANY animal can benefit from this ancient energy work.

Animals, wild or domestic, live the same life path that we humans do. They are born, live and die. The very process of existing presents situations or experiences that can have negatively impactful outcomes. Being neglected, abused, frightened, injured, afflicted with a serious illness, heartbroken or depressed can each result in damage and a weakening of a human’s or animal’s spiritual energy.

When a being’s energy field is lowered in this way, that being is more susceptible to intrusions of negative energies. These negative or imbalanced energies can cause a myriad of issues that can manifest into a degradation or imbalance within the physical or emotional self. Such imbalances can swiftly transform into such issues as physical pain or illness, depression, addictions, obsessive behaviours or anxiety, to name a few.

The good news is that animals are far better tuned into their energy fields that us humans. They instinctively know that something is amiss. Unfortunately, they do not have the capacity to fix or heal themselves. They do, however, recognize the presence of healing when it occurs.

While animals may find it initially surprising to experience the presence of the healing energy pulses at the start of a session, they are quick to recognize that this is helping to correct an imbalance. While they may startle momentarily, they soon re-approach without skepticism or fear. Without fail, they look at me knowingly and move closer to be an active participant in the healing session. I continue until the animal signals the treatment is complete – they walk away and lie down. It is truly a beautiful experience to witness!

Soon after that, most animals seek out a quiet place and settle down for a long nap to let the healing fully settle in to where and how it is needed. Then, after a good nap and a drink of water, the animal is usually ready to carry on with the day as usual.

Animals bring us so much joy and comfort. It is wonderful when we return the kindness with Shamanic healing and power when they are in need.

The Benefits of A Power Animal

The Benefits of A Power Animal

The Many Benefits of Having a Power Animal

Power animal is another term for a spirit helper in animal form. Each of us has at least one and, more commonly, numerous power animals and those animals can change over time. They come to us because they have a lesson we need to learn or a power or skill they are willing to share, such as fearlessness, strength, gentleness, understanding and patience.

Several of my own power animals have been with me for several years and I have experienced firsthand and observed with fascination how spirit helpers can enter our lives when we most need their unique expression of power and then leave, typically because the relationship has served its purpose and another animal is or will be entering your life.

Consider the cougar, for instance. A powerful, agile and unhesitating animal, it shares lessons on how to be a balanced leader who doesn’t rush into the attack but doesn’t lurk in the brush either. The cougar can help you decide how best to use your personal powers, particularly when defending yourself from aggressors.

If you’re going through a period of transformation, meanwhile, a butterfly may enter your life. Butterflies represent joy, freedom, creativity and change. Take a look at what’s going on in your life and consider if it’s time to make some changes. If you’re already in the midst of a transformation, this power animal will give you the strength to gracefully navigate your transition.

A power animal can be a mammal, bird, reptile or even a mythical creature, such as a unicorn or dragon. Your power animal isn’t just a single animal, but the entire species. If your power animal is a hawk, for example, it will represent all hawks.

You can let your power animal come to you when it thinks the time is right – perhaps through a vision or dream – or you can ask it to show itself to you through meditation. Some people have direct encounters with their power animals in nature. As a Shamanic Practitioner, I can do a power animal retrieval for you and help you learn about and connect with your power animals.

You may love a particular animal or would like to have a certain animal on your team, but don’t be disappointed if an entirely different animal shows up. Remember, power animals come to us and we need to trust their ability to share important lessons and wisdom with us. Many people have had longstanding relationships with power animals without even knowing it and upon learning about one of their animal spirit helpers, immediately recognize an existing relationship.

Just as our ancestors watched animals and their traits, abilities and habits very carefully and learned to respect them, Shamanic Practitioners around the world have relied on the guidance and wisdom of spirit animals for centuries.

Our power animals are valuable allies and can be exceptional teachers if we’re receptive to what they have to share with us. Be open to feel and experience the presence of the spirit animal who has chosen to guide, support and teach you.  Identifying your spirit animal is just the beginning. I encourage you to study their life, habitat and characteristics to better understand how they can help you. Find a picture of your power animal and mediate on it.

Truly connecting with your power animal can help you learn more about your authentic self and life purpose and how you can overcome challenges and bring more meaning to your life. I look forward to helping you identify and get to know your power animal!

What’s In A Name?

What’s In A Name?

What’s In a Name… Why I chose, The Wired Shaman

Since the dawn of recorded history archaeologists and other researchers have found evidence that shamans and the practice of shamanism were common components in communities all over the world. So, how is it that, at a time when there was no technology nor means of communicating long distances that so many dispersed cultures practiced shamanic rituals that were eerily similar to one another? It was this question that drew me in to learn more about this topic. By doing so, I found my answer through learning the ways of the ancients. In turn, this newfound knowledge brought about yet another question…

Why are so many cultures still practicing shamanism today, while mainstream North American culture does not? Is it because most people have not heard about it? Or perhaps they’ve heard about it but are not sure where to experience it within a context that is familiar and convenient? Always one to scour for solutions – I had a thought: ‘Perhaps putting this topic and access to the shamanic experience within a medium that is familiar and accessible in our modern society is the answer!’

It for this reason that I chose the the name ‘The Wired Shaman’… it is a respectful nod to Tim Berners-Lee, a British scientist at CERN, who invented the World Wide Web back in 1989. CERN is a scientific research organization that successfully brought together 22 member countries who have their best and brightest engineers and physicists working together to research and discover the fundamental structure of the universe. The Internet was developed for the purpose of allowing the CERN scientists and engineers to instantly share findings and data so they could move together in understanding the universe, how it came to be and how it works.

By using the medium of the Internet to communicate my message and the lessons, I hope to create a welcoming new portal that will allow you, and others like you, to launch a personal exploration of an ancient practice that spans our planet and may just expand our awareness of this universe and where we fit into it.

So please stay a while and have a good look around. See if Shamanism speaks to you the way it has spoken to so many over thousands of years…. welcome!
